In the course Producing an EPK we were asked to do some task in order to create a piece of music in Ableton Live with specific specifications. In this work we had to create a piece that will contain the use of virtual instruments such as drums, bass and melody, setup in Arrangement View and basic mixing of the sounds without peaks.

In Task 1 we were asked to make a Subtractive Constraction Kit using subtractive sound synthesis we need to create Drum Sounds like Kick, Snare, Hi-Hat Open, Hi-Hat Closed and Crash, Percussion Sounds like Rim, Clap, Clave and more, Sound Effects like Riser, Sweeps, Zap, Weaps and more, Monophonic Bass Tone, Monophonic Lead Tone and Polyphonic Tone. All the sounds will be inside a central folder with the appropriate name. After laying down the Drum Sounds that formed the basis of the piece, I started working on the Percussion Sounds, the percussion helped to keep the beat, make special sounds and add excitement and color. I also added Sound Effects which enhance the listener's experience by enhancing emotions through sound. Finally I put the Monophonic Bass Tone, Monophonic Lead Tone and Polyphonic Tone.

Task 1: Substractive Constraction Kit // Drum Sounds

In Task 2 we were asked to make a Genre Specific Track. Using all the sounds from Task 1 I created a 2 minute piece of music in which I took the sounds from Task 1 and added various instruments to make the Subtractive Constraction Kit more genre and sound specific and give another approach to the piece . I mainly used sounds from the keys of the piano to give a happier and at the same time solitaire, I added notes to make it richer in sound and I changed notes according to how I thought the piece sounded better so that it would not be monotonous to the listener and it has some consistency with the previous tunes. That's how I created a Genre Specific Track which is simple, easy-going, meets the Task's requirements.

Task 2 : Genre Specific Track // 2 minutes // from Task 1

In Task 3 we were asked to make an Ambient Track. Using all the sounds from Task 1 I created a 2 minute ambient music piece in which I took the sounds from Task 1 and added various ambients to make the Subtractive Constructio Kit a style of soft music without a persistent beat, used to create an atmosphere . I didn't use melodies like Task 2, which was based on symphonies, I took the central sound of Task 1 and put in notes that feel like there's an emphasis on tonality and rhythm.

Task 3 : Ambient Track // 2 minutes // from Task 1

In Task 4 we were asked to make a Jingle to promote the track. Using all the sounds from Task 2 and 3 to produce and compose a short 20 second piece of music using techniques developed in the first semester. I took the main audio from Task 1 that was used in Task 2 and some melodies from Task 3 to make the track teaser and bring the listener, as much as possible, to hear the Tracks.

Task 4 : Jingle // 20 seconds // from Task 2 and 3

Task 5 had as its purpose the promotion of the previous Tasks through an artwork. We had to create a cover artwork for each Task based on the requirements of online services such as iTunes, Spotify, Apple Music, SoundCloud and the rest of the platforms.

Among these Tasks we understood basic differences between the Subtractive Constraction Kit, the Genre Specific Track, the Ambient Track and the Jingle as well as the different assumptions of the streaming platforms. Through this process we learned the use of Ableton Live and the filters as well as the ways in which we can use this DAW and its capabilities. I believe I could do better than what I have done, but I know that among the mistakes that were made during the creation of the Tasks, I learned more both about the DAW and in conjunction with the knowledge I gained during the semester that the next time my work will be better.
